- FDR took a seat on the US Senate
- 1913 FDR became the Assistant Secretary for US Navy
- The family moved to Washington DC with their four children
- Eleanor did not like social events, alcohol and people getting out of control
- FDR loved social events, poker and entertaining people
- Eleanor finds out about the affair between Lucy and FDR
- The decide to stay married but never live like husband and wife again
- 1920 they move back to NYC
- Eleanor decides to educate herself and start to lead the life of an independent woman
- Louie Howell encourages Eleanor to speak out about politics and the democratic party
- Eleanor asks for women to be represented at the Democratic convention. Women are allowed but the head of the party wants to pick the women. Eleanor gets angry and writes an article in the New York Times urging women to take a more active role in politics so they can get better jobs, pay and treatment
- Eleanor becomes an English teacher at her friend’s school
- FDR builds Eleanor her own home where she entertained many friends and started to enjoy life
