Norman Rockwell

Norman Rockwell was a famous American painter who is best know for his covers of the Saturday Evening Post. In his career he painted more than 350 covers. He is best know for depicting American life and the many things that were going on at the time of he was painting. Go to the following link: http://www.curtispublishing.com/other-artists/html/rockwell.shtml and find a painting created during the years 1929-1945. You can do this by clicking on the proper years and then finding a painting that you like during the time period. After you find the painting that you like and feel you can discuss you are to answer the following questions:
1. What year was the painting created?
2. What is the title of the painting?
3. Was the painting created during the Great Depression, World War II or both?
4. What does the paining represent?
5. How do you think this painting represents what was going on in the world at that time?
6. How has the world changed since then, or how is it similar?
I will give you an example of a posting:
1. 1930
2. Stock Exchange Quotations
3. This painting was created during the first year of the Great Depression and before we entered World War II.
4. This painting represents how nervous people were during the start of the Great Depression. The people are looking at the stock page to see how their money is doing in the ecomony.
5. This represents how most people were feeling - nervous about their money and their future.
6. The world has changed since then greatly, but unfortunately right now we are back in a very similiar place. People are nervous about their money, we are in a financial crisis and people are constantly checking their stocks and investments.
NEXT - You are to comment on the painting by Norman Rockwell called the Golden Rule (see above paining). The Golden Rule states: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. What does this mean to you? How can you set an example with people around you using the Golden Rule?
